NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH FAQ
WHAT IS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?
The Neighborhood Watch (NW) Program is a National Program sponsored by the National Neighborhood Watch Institute
(www.nnwi.org) and the National Sheriff's Association. NNWI provides the training materials for the Neighborhood
Watch programs. The goals of the National Neighborhood Watch Program are as follows:
- Neighbors getting to know each other, taking the time to care about each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance.
- Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
- Crime prevention strategies such as personal and home security and National Night Out.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE BLOCK CAPTAIN
- The role of the Block Captain is relatively simple and does not require much of your time.
- Be a spokesperson for your part of our neighborhood. Know your neighbors and your neighborhood.
- Communicate information about the FC Neighborhood Watch Program.
- Help organize and arrange Neighborhood Watch meetings for your Area.
- Maintain a list of members. Ensure all existing and new neighbors have current contact information.
- Recognize and report all suspicious activity.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE DALE COUNTY RESIDENT
- Know your Area Block Captain and make contact with them if you have not already been contacted.
- Follow the Neighborhood Watch Guidelines with respect to Home and Personal Security.
- Communicate safety, security and general Neighborhood Watch concerns to your Block Captains and the Neighborhood Watch Committee.
- Recognize and report all suspicious activity.
- Always dial 911 to report any emergencies in your neighborhood.
- DO NOT CONTACT the Block Captains or the Neighborhood Watch Committee for any police related incidents or activities. We are not a community police force.
